How Virtual CRA Audit Representation Works

1
Immediate Consultation
Share your CRA notice with us. We review the audit request, assess the scope and explain exactly what CRA is looking for and what your rights are.
2
Authorise Us with CRA
We register as your authorised representative with CRA — CRA then communicates with us directly, not with you.
3
Document Preparation
We gather, review and prepare all documents required by CRA — ensuring only what is necessary is disclosed and everything is presented clearly and accurately.
4
CRA Response and Resolution
We respond to CRA on your behalf, negotiate where applicable and work toward the best possible outcome — objection or appeal filed if the result is unsatisfactory.

CRA Audit Representation — Client Results

Outcomes from Ontario businesses we have represented virtually before CRA.

Construction — Brampton

T2 Audit — Shareholder Benefits Dispute

A Brampton contractor received a CRA T2 reassessment adding $48,000 in shareholder benefits to income. We reviewed the transactions, prepared a detailed objection with supporting documentation and communicated directly with CRA Appeals — entirely virtually. The reassessment was reduced significantly after our objection.

✓ Reassessment reduced — client represented virtually throughout
Retail — Mississauga

GST/HST Audit — ITC Disallowance

A Mississauga retailer had $22,000 in Input Tax Credits disallowed by CRA due to missing supplier information on invoices. We worked with the client to locate original invoices, obtained supplier confirmation letters and submitted a comprehensive response to CRA. The majority of ITCs were reinstated.

✓ Majority of ITCs reinstated — penalty waived under Taxpayer Relief
Consulting — Ottawa

Voluntary Disclosure — Unreported Income

An Ottawa consultant had three years of unreported consulting income from US clients. We prepared and filed a Voluntary Disclosure Program application before CRA opened an audit. The VDP was accepted — the consultant paid the tax owing with interest but avoided all gross negligence penalties and criminal prosecution.

✓ VDP accepted — all penalties waived, prosecution avoided

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from Ontario businesses about CRA audits and virtual representation.

I received a CRA audit notice. What should I do first?
Do not respond directly to CRA without speaking to a licensed CPA first. A poorly worded initial response can significantly expand the scope of the audit. Contact Gondaliya CPA immediately — call 647-212-9559 or book a consultation. We will review the notice, explain what CRA is requesting and take over all communication from that point forward.
Can a Toronto CPA represent me before CRA if my business is outside Toronto?
Yes. CRA audits are conducted entirely by correspondence — CRA sends written requests and we respond in writing on your behalf. Your CPA does not need to be in the same city as your business or attend any in-person meetings. Gondaliya CPA represents businesses across Ontario and Canada entirely virtually, with the same licensed CPA team regardless of your location.
How do you authorise Gondaliya CPA to speak with CRA on my behalf?
You authorise us as your representative by submitting a consent form through CRA My Business Account (online) or by calling CRA at 1-800-959-5525. We walk you through the authorisation process step by step during onboarding. Once authorised, CRA communicates directly with us — you no longer receive audit correspondence or need to speak with CRA. We walk you through the authorisation process step by step during onboarding.
What is a Notice of Objection and when should I file one?
A Notice of Objection is your formal dispute of a CRA reassessment. If CRA audits your return and issues a reassessment you believe is incorrect, you have 90 days from the date of the reassessment to file a Notice of Objection. Missing this deadline permanently forfeits your right to dispute the reassessment at the CRA Appeals level. We assess every audit outcome and file an objection wherever the reassessment can be challenged.
Is CRA audit support really free for existing clients?
Yes — CRA audit support is included at no extra charge for all corporate tax filing and accounting clients of Gondaliya CPA. If CRA contacts us about a return we prepared, we respond directly and represent you throughout the audit process without any additional fee. For new clients who are already under audit, we quote a flat engagement fee based on the scope of the audit.
What is the Voluntary Disclosures Program and should I use it?
The Voluntary Disclosures Program (VDP) allows individuals and businesses to come forward voluntarily to correct inaccurate or incomplete information — including unreported income, unfiled returns or incorrect deductions — before CRA initiates an audit or contacts you. If accepted, the VDP provides relief from gross negligence penalties and prosecution, though you must pay the tax owing plus interest. The VDP is only available before CRA contacts you about the issue. We assess eligibility and prepare VDP applications entirely virtually.
CRA has frozen my bank account or garnished my wages. What can you do?
CRA collection actions — bank garnishments, wage garnishments, liens on property and requirement to pay notices to third parties — require immediate response. We contact CRA Collections on your behalf, negotiate a payment arrangement or an instalment plan, and work to have collection actions lifted or paused while the arrangement is established. Please contact us the same day you become aware of any CRA collection action.
How are documents shared with you virtually during an audit?
All documents — CRA notices, financial records, invoices, bank statements and prior returns — are shared through our secure TaxDome client portal, accessible from any device anywhere in Canada. We review everything in the portal, prepare responses and upload final letters for your approval before submission. No physical documents need to be mailed or delivered at any point.
