Mississauga Businesses Face CRA Audits. We Resolve Them.
Mississauga is one of the most audited cities in the GTA. The concentration of pharmaceutical companies, IT consulting firms, logistics and trucking operations, import/export businesses, restaurants and real estate investors makes Mississauga a high-priority target for CRA's industry-specific audit campaigns. Every year, CRA selects thousands of Mississauga businesses for desk reviews, field audits and trust examination programs.
When you receive a CRA audit letter, the wrong response costs you thousands. Providing too much information gives CRA additional lines of inquiry. Providing too little triggers a net worth assessment or arbitrary reassessment. Responding late triggers penalties. Not responding at all triggers a jeopardy assessment. We know exactly what CRA is looking for, what to provide, what not to provide and how to negotiate the best possible outcome. CRA audit resolution is FREE for all existing clients. No additional charge. Every audit, every year.

Types of CRA Audits Mississauga Businesses Face
| Audit Type | What CRA Reviews | Common for Mississauga |
|---|---|---|
| T2 corporate income tax audit | Revenue reporting, expense deductions, CCA claims, shareholder transactions, inter-company pricing. CRA compares your return against industry benchmarks. | Pharma consulting firms, IT companies, professional services. CRA reviews management fees, inter-company charges and shareholder loan accounts. |
| HST/GST audit | HST collected vs. reported, ITC claims, zero-rated vs. exempt classification, place of supply, self-assessment on imported services. | Import/export businesses (Pearson Airport corridor), logistics companies, e-commerce. CRA cross-references HST returns against T2 revenue and customs declarations. |
| Payroll audit | Worker classification (employee vs. contractor), CPP/EI remittances, taxable benefits, source deductions. | IT staffing firms, trucking companies using owner-operators, restaurants, cleaning companies. CRA reclassifies contractors as employees and assesses back CPP/EI for all years. |
| T5018 compliance audit | Construction and certain industries must report subcontractor payments. CRA audits the completeness and accuracy of T5018 filings. | Mississauga construction companies, trades contractors, transportation. Missing T5018 slips trigger penalties and a broader audit of subcontractor relationships. |
| Trust examination (payroll/HST) | CRA verifies that payroll deductions and HST collected have been remitted on time and in full. Trust funds held on behalf of employees and CRA. | Restaurants, staffing agencies, construction. CRA considers unremitted payroll and HST as trust fraud. Directors can be personally liable. |
| Personal tax audit (T1) | Rental income, capital gains vs. business income, home office, vehicle claims, unreported income. | Mississauga real estate investors (flipping, assignment sales), ride-share drivers, cash-intensive service providers. |

What We Do During a CRA Audit
| Service | What We Handle |
|---|---|
| Initial audit letter review | We review the CRA audit letter, identify what CRA is targeting, determine the scope of the audit and develop a response strategy. We advise you on what to expect, the timeline and the potential outcomes before any documents are sent to CRA. |
| Document preparation and submission | We prepare the response package: only the documents CRA has requested, organized to answer CRA's specific questions without volunteering additional information. Every document is reviewed by a CPA before submission. |
| CRA meeting attendance | If CRA requests an in-person or virtual meeting, we attend on your behalf. You do not need to speak directly with the auditor. We answer all questions, manage the conversation and prevent scope expansion. |
| Negotiation of proposed adjustments | When CRA proposes adjustments (additional tax, denied deductions, reclassified income), we negotiate. Many proposed adjustments can be reduced or eliminated with proper documentation and technical arguments. |
| Objection filing (Notice of Objection) | If the reassessment is incorrect, we file a formal Notice of Objection with CRA Appeals Division within the 90-day deadline. We prepare the legal and factual arguments and represent you through the appeals process. |
| Taxpayer Relief Program (TRP) application | If penalties and interest are assessed, we file a TRP application to request cancellation. CRA considers extraordinary circumstances, CRA errors and financial hardship. We have successfully reduced penalties by $5,000 to $40,000 for Mississauga clients. |
| Voluntary Disclosure (if needed) | If the audit reveals issues beyond the years under review (unreported income, unfiled returns), we advise on whether a Voluntary Disclosure should be filed for the remaining years to limit penalties and avoid criminal prosecution. |
CRA Audit Resolution Is FREE for All Existing Clients. If CRA audits your T2, T1, HST or payroll, we handle everything at no additional charge. We respond to every CRA request, attend every meeting and negotiate every reassessment. This applies to every client, every year, for the entire time you are a client. For non-clients facing a CRA audit, our standalone audit representation starts at $400. CRA Audit Resolution Services →
Mississauga CRA Audit Resolution: Real Results
IT Consulting Firm, Hurontario Corridor
CRA audited a Mississauga IT consulting firm for worker misclassification. CRA proposed reclassifying 8 contractors as employees, assessing $124,000 in back CPP, EI and source deductions for 3 years. We reviewed every contractor agreement, demonstrated that each contractor met the independent contractor criteria (own tools, multiple clients, risk of loss, control over schedule), provided supporting documentation and negotiated with the auditor. Result: 6 of 8 contractors maintained as independent. Reassessment reduced from $124,000 to $31,200. Client saved $92,800.
Restaurant Owner, Port Credit
CRA selected a Mississauga restaurant for a cash audit using the bank deposit method. CRA proposed $86,000 in unreported income over 2 years based on unexplained bank deposits. We analyzed every deposit, identified and documented personal transfers, loan proceeds, family gifts and inter-account transfers that CRA had incorrectly classified as unreported income. We provided bank statements, personal loan agreements and statutory declarations. Result: unreported income reduced from $86,000 to $8,200. Tax savings: $28,400 in avoided reassessment plus $6,800 in avoided penalties.
Import/Export Business, Pearson Airport Area
CRA audited an import/export company for HST compliance. CRA proposed $62,000 in denied ITCs on the basis that supporting invoices did not meet the documentation requirements (missing supplier GST/HST registration numbers on invoices over $150). We obtained corrected invoices from 14 suppliers, prepared a reconciliation showing that every ITC was for legitimate commercial purchases, and submitted the corrected documentation within the audit timeline. Result: $58,400 of $62,000 in ITCs reinstated. Client saved $58,400. CRA Audit Services →
Real Estate Investor, Mississauga
CRA reclassified a Mississauga real estate investor's sale of 3 properties from capital gains (50% inclusion) to business income (100% inclusion). Proposed additional tax: $47,600. We demonstrated that the properties were held as long-term investments (average hold period 4.2 years, all rented during ownership, no pattern of flipping), provided rental income history, mortgage documents and the investor's stated intention at purchase. We filed a Notice of Objection. CRA Appeals reversed the reclassification entirely. Tax savings: $47,600 plus $8,200 in interest and penalties.

What Happens If You Handle a CRA Audit Incorrectly
| Mistake | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Ignoring the audit letter | CRA issues a jeopardy assessment based on their own estimates. You owe the assessed amount plus penalties. The burden of proof shifts entirely to you. |
| Providing too much information | CRA expands the scope of the audit. A T2 audit becomes a combined T2 + HST + payroll audit. Additional years may be opened. |
| Responding without a CPA | Business owners often make admissions during CRA conversations that create additional liability. Verbal statements to auditors are used against you. |
| Missing the objection deadline (90 days) | The reassessment becomes final. No appeal is possible. You owe the full amount with no recourse except the Taxpayer Relief Program for penalties and interest. |
| Not tracking the 3-year reassessment window | CRA can reassess within 3 years (6 years for related-party transactions, unlimited for misrepresentation). Without tracking, you may not realize a reassessment is coming until it arrives. |
